1. Christopher Waltz for Inglourious Basterds. I know I'm not the first to say it but I'm so glad he's winning because he was fantastic. And when you thought he could not get better, he did.

I watched 10 movies since the beginning of the month (and year). 7 of them were movies from 2009 (and 9 of them I saw in theaters).

The 3 older movies I saw this year all stared Humphrey Bogart.

I saw The Maltese Falcon (which was amazing), Sabrina (I liked it better than the remake but I didn't love it) and I'm just back from Key Largo. I will watch To have and have not next week too (but in between, I have a Hitchcock movie sitting on my coffee table).

I'm fascinated. Obviously, I'm not the first one but the guy had so much charisma it's incredible. It really doesn't take long to understand why he is such a legend, his presence only glues me to the screen. I had seen The Big Sleep last December and Lauren Bacall does that to me too (those eyes, that voice !).

What a magnetic couple.

Here's why I don't count how many television I watch through the year. Since the beginning of this one, I've been re-watching Friends again. I've watched (in that order) season 1, 6, 7, 5 (in one day), and I'm halfway through the second one.

I've seen that show so many times that I haven't thought once "hey, I did not remember that" (but I was sometimes surprised to realize that some things were so early in the show). I pretty much know every line, and I still love it. I realized yesterday that I am older than they are in the first seasons and it made me feel OLD ! I wasn't even in high school when it started !

And also, I squee at this part every single time as if it was the first time I saw it.

100 MOVIES IN 2010

2009 was a success, with an easy 101 movies. I could have seen more without trying too hard but it was one more than 2008.

This year, my personal goal for 100 movies in 2010 is actually 110 movies in 2010... let's see how it works out.

I love getting up super early in the morning and waiting for a maintenance guy and finding out now that he already left and told that I wasn't here. Because I was.

Not that I really wanted to leave the house, since there is lots of snow outside. AGAIN. They say there might be even more this week... I'm taking the subway for the shortest trips with this weather. I made the mistake of walking back home yesterday. A very short trip, but it was snowing, the floor was slippery and of course it gets SO COLD and windy on bridges... The city looked entirely grey yesterday. Very ugly.

Today, while stuck at home waiting (and hiding from the snow), I watched the first episode of BBC's The impressionists, as lennongirl recommended it. And I feel SO smart watching it because I KNOW THESE THINGS. Not all the details of course, but a lot of it. Although it's not the era I'm most qualified in, it feels quite historically accurate to me. And makes me want to paint, which reminds me I'm out of paper and my class starts again on Thursday.

Oh and since I haven't said it yet : HAPPY NEW YEAR everyone. I hope 2010 will be sweet to you !

So, tonight, I went to see The Soloist, entirely because Robert Downey Jr is pretty (which makes me want to see the Sherlock Holmes movie very much, although I wish it wasn't about Sherlock Holmes...)

I love wrapping Christmas gifts ! Lots of ribbons, shiny papers... I think every year they look more ridiculous than the previous one and I really love it ! I do them for almost all my family, and of course I have to put this much ribbons, it's Milady's present !!

I finished a lot of knitting projects this week !

First, remember these socks ?
I gave them to my mother today and she really liked them ! she took off the ones she was already wearing and wore these for the rest of the day. She told me her mother would be proud of me ! They are really really red !

Then, I finished a sweater for myself, that I had been knitting since the end of October. I'm rather happy with the result, it fits me, although it's a bit short and it's the first sweater I did all by myself. No help for mom. Sewing the neck piece was horribly long. Like, 2,5 hours ! For the neck only !

It's cute and only took me a few hours and I really want to make a hundred of these !

My dad fixed the eyes for me because he was horrified to see me handle superglue without any gloves.

Since october, every Thursday afternoon I go to an art workshop. It's not really a class, we gather to draw and exchange about how we did that time, but there is no teacher.

It's really fun to draw with a model again, it was a long time since I last did it. The group is 3 to 6 people, all of them way older than me (the youngest may be the age of my parents). Two of them are artists, working on exhibitions and have a really great style. We start with 2 minutes sitting time, then 5, then 7 and 10.

I really enjoy myself, try some new techniques and I think some of them turn out great (except that one time where absolutely everything I did was rubbish. Blargh). I wanted to post some of them for a long time but I don't have a scanner, and I work on bigger paper anyway.

Under the cut is only paintings I did, because the camera in my cellphone can't handle the sketch ones, only pencil on paper. Good thing I only believe in bright colors in painting :p

THAT'S RIGHT PEOPLE !! I MADE A SOCK !!

When I was a little girl (I don't remember exactly but most likely around 8), my grandmother gave my sister and I handmade socks. Mine had pink and yellow stripes. I remember that they were a little too tight (I was growing fast at that age), a little too warm and scratchy, and I almost never wore them. However, I also remember that they were the coolest socks ever.

I got stuck in knitting the sweater I posted the other day. I have no idea how I should do my next row, and it's annoying me. So I took a break before I ripped the whole thing.

I had this huge ball of cheap yarn in my stash for a while, and it was always meant to be a scarf. Now it is.
